Henry Madrid (El Henry) is a California-born artist with roots in multicultural rich Los Angeles. His story is characterized by breaks and pauses. He found solace and a sense of personal empowering identity in art at an early age. However, his passion for art waned as other aspects of life soon took precedence.
Madrid’s artistic technique, characterized by spontaneity and self-discovery, complements his academic achievements of a BA and a Master’s degree from UCLA, despite his limited formal art training.
Madrid hit an emotional curve in his journey as a widower. His grief found solace and expressive outlet in art once again. This loss gave way to a diversified burst of creative activity encompassing poetry, short stories, playwriting, theater acting, colored pencil drawings, and paintings with acrylics.
Each of his works, from sketches to acrylics and mixed media, reflects his distinctive style and dynamic technique. His art explores the depths of the human psyche, blending subconscious themes, psychedelic boldness, and abstract surrealism. His passion for nature, music, theater, and feminine allure shines through his art.
Madrid’s art has gained recognition, being chosen for competitive open calls in Los Angeles and displayed at the Rod Briggs Art Gallery in Long Beach, highlighting his rising prominence. As a member of the Long Beach Creative Group, he anticipates further exhibitions to present his work.
He views art as a deeply individual yet collective means to delve into, encounter, and convey the elusive facets of life. El Henry’s art stands tall as an artist whose world is reflected in a flurry of lines, curves, colors, and shadows. His art continues to paint a prolific, poignant narrative of life - its experiences, its tragedies, its joys, and its ceaseless progression.
